Combat Arena: Alpha 3.0.1 Patch Notes

New year, new notes.

The Skymill team had a great holiday, and we’re looking forward to making this a big year for Kindred Fates! Since we last updated the Alpha, we've been hard at work on UI improvements, stability, and bug fixes.

General Changes

  • Added controller support for the Kinfolk management and Kinfolk ability pages. This means that almost all of the currently playable content has controller support!

  • The button rebinding UI has been simplified to allow 1 column for keyboard/mouse rebinding, and 1 column for controller rebinding. The third column has been repurposed into a "Reset" button per key-binding instead of a being a third binding slot.

  • Button prompts on the ability bar and on the team viewer update as you change key-bindings for specific actions.

  • The Give/Take Item options in the storage box UI have been improved. Giving and taking items can now be done in the storage box UI instead of forcing the player to equip characters, close the storage box UI, and open the team/inventory UI to give them items.

  • The "Known Abilities" UI window used for equipping abilities has been improved. It now uses a single click to select an ability, and a single click on a slot to equip that ability, instead of using click/drag. You can also reorganize equipped abilities by clicking an equipped ability and then clicking a different equipped slot to swap their positions. This window also has some new visual polish to make the process of equipping abilities feel more intuitive.

  • We’ve expanded the number of users that will be displayed (up to 10) in the “Recently Online” list in Private Matchmaking.

BUG FIXES

Thank you to all the alpha players who posted in the bug-reports channel of our Discord! (Big thanks to V-Senpai, Sir Billy Goat, Bottled Ducky, Doz, Phenixor, Adventurer Warewolf, Sep, and Ynku).

  • Fixed a bug where entering an arena match with an empty team would break the game, forcing a reset. It is now impossible to enter an arena match with an empty team (it will auto equip your first loadout).

  • Implemented measures to prevent players from falling to their death when entering arena matches. If you continue to see this, please let us know!

  • Fixed Stunner Flies drastically reducing game performance while the ability is active. (Surprisingly it was the VFX for that ability causing the issue.)

  • Fixed a bug with character swapping which resulted in the potential to duplicate Kinfolk in the storage box UI.

  • Fixed a soft lock that could occur if you began the summon ability, opened the storage box UI, deposited all of your Kinfolk, closed the UI, and tried to fire the summon ability.

  • Fixed bugs that could occur when a Kinfolk opened the storage box UI. Now only the human player can interact with the storage box UI.

  • Fixed a bug where jumping and dodging into an obstacle would launch the player backwards.

  • Fixed a bug where some characters could accidentally have some hit boxes visualized after using certain abilities

  • Fixed a bug where characters could dodge during their death animation.

  • Fixed a bug where projectile attacks could be put in a bad state where they immediately impact the user upon all future uses. This was caused when the Reflect ability reflected that ability.

  • A few minor UI selection bugs have also fixed.

Known Issues

  • Glyphs in the tutorial books are wrong. They currently show only the Xbox inputs.

  • The ability bar could incorrectly show "4, 4, 4" as the button prompts when returning from an arena match.

  • Swapping Kinfolk could stop working when returning to the hub after an arena match.

  • When swapping Kinfolk, the user will sometimes teleport a short distance.

  • In some cases a player won’t be reset to the starting position in between rounds.

  • Sometimes the human character will lose their clothing after summoning or recalling.

  • Inbox/Friends List are non-functional until a subsequent patch. Friends list shows example text that can't currently be interacted with.

  • Some Kinfolk have abilities equipped by default that don't exist in their known move pool.

  • Starting items in the player's inventory can be deleted by feeding them to a Kinfolk (Restart the game without saving if you lose them).

  • Moving a Kinfolk in the box menu that has an item equipped will play the item pickup sound.

  • Cone attacks veer slightly to the right of their intended direction if your camera is offset.

  • Leaving matchmaking or crashing while connecting to an opponent can leave both of your games in a bad state, where restart is required.
