We hope you enjoyed our tribute to the community on the 3rd! Because of that, we’ll be giving you an update about the past month instead of the past two weeks.
Progress
6 days ago we were experiencing frequent issues with server connectivity, but now it’s looking more stable than ever. The development team has been hard at work on various combat related features. They had a particularly good time setting up the Cooldown UI!
moving along to the art team, concept art is moving along nicely. We’re getting some gorgeous landscape pieces in and we can’t wait to turn them into the battle arenas you’ll be seeing for the alpha!
kinfolk designs keep coming, but lately the design team has been focusing most of their effort on helping with the implementation of new art assets in game. Rob has been an important bridge between the art team and the developers for this.
Big news from the audio team! Work on the official soundtrack has started and we’re really excited about the progress! The menu theme is going to be a certified bop. There’s also been a lot of great progress lately on the games sound effects.
keeping up with our user account systems is also important to us. The user account system on our website is coming along well! We expect to have that ready for you all within the next month. After that we plan on making some major improvements to our progress board, so stay tuned for that.
July has been an important month for determining the the combat arena’s estimated release. We’ve been planning ahead lately, and it’s become apparent to our team that releasing the Alpha Combat Arena in August would require us to cut some of the features we had planned. Rather than paring down the content in the first publicly playable version of Kindred Fates, we’d prefer to take the time it will require to finish these features. Specifically, more playable kinfolk, more attacks, and more arenas to play in.
We’re expecting to release the Alpha by November at the very latest, but it could reasonably be sooner. We’ll continue to update you about the release date as it becomes more concrete. Thank you all so much for your patience. We promise it’ll be worth it!
Community
The team has given the final pass on the Awburn plushie! We’ll be moving onto next steps very soon. We expect to be shipping them out in October!
Great minds think alike! Some of our community members released a wonderful video celebrating the anniversary on July 3. Thank you all so much for celebrating a special day with us. It brought more than a few of the team members to tears.
We had such a blast challenging the community to a friendly game of Super Smash Bros for Chill with the Devs 4: Rob and Wicket Smash the Community! The prize for beating the devs was more than just bragging rights- every win earned the community a small portion of a new concept art image.
Don’t worry if you missed out this time; there will be more opportunities to win pieces, including another potential Smash session in the future. There are 55 pieces in total and 10 have been unlocked so far, so we have a way to go!
Our next stream will be on Friday July 24 at 10pm EST, featuring one of our Kinfolk concept artists, Don Pablo, and rigger/animator, Cookie, to talk about the Kinfolk Creation process. You can submit your questions for our guests here!
Thanks for checking in with us! We’ll see you next time, on July 31st! (3 posts this month? It’s a blue moon! You lucky ducks :P)
